Throughout my fertility journey, I visited the clinic several times per week. Each time, putting my feet in those cold and sterile stirrups, as I’d await the doctor for what felt like an eternity. As I lay there, trying so hard to push away negativity and fear, all I could focus on was my feet. My feet, and my old pilled socks. It was then that the idea for Fertile Feet was born.
Turning my pain into purpose, I envisioned socks that would shift my mood, restore my hope, give me strength, and remind me that whatever the outcome it will be “a journey worth walking.”™ And yours will be too!
What I wanted, no needed, more than anything, more than air to breathe, was to be a mother. I poured all my time, effort, and energy into a long and arduous journey of fertility treatments. The truth was, behind my smile was a world of pain. I would pretend to be strong but was weak and fearful. Each miscarriage leaving behind an unfulfilled dream filled with pain, heartache, and a future unknown. I often questioned my true purpose.
After ten years of praying, injecting myself with 477 shots, enduring ten procedures, and suffering seven miscarriages, I was forced to accept that it was simply not meant to be. Having approached every step of my journey with boundless hope and intense desire, I managed to keep a smile on my face while hiding a world of pain. Though incredibly difficult and disheartening, it was not without purpose.a
We cannot change what God has planned for us, and whether we understand it or not, there is a purpose for it all. I pray you let go of what you cannot control, take each step with faith and never lose hope. Trusting in the process is not easy, but you will discover it most certainly will be “a journey worth walking.” TM Now go be that courageous, strong, badass woman that are you!
Light & Love,
Angela, Founder of Fertile Feet
Throughout my career as a healthcare professional, I’ve witnessed firsthand how socially constructed norms, attitudes, and behaviors around gender deeply influence women’s experiences within the healthcare system. These factors affect how women are perceived, the care they receive, and, ultimately, their health outcomes.
In my practice, I’ve seen that many of the resources available to women on their journey to starting a family are largely reactive. Women often struggle for years before accessing the care they need, partly because much of women’s health remains under-researched and stigmatized. For instance:
1 in 10 women suffer from endometriosis, yet it often takes years to diagnose.
1 in 6 couples face infertility, with the numbers rising daily.
1 in 4 women experience pregnancy loss, yet these experiences are shrouded in silence due to societal taboos.
These realities highlight a systemic gap in understanding and addressing the specific health issues and needs of women, leaving many to navigate the emotional challenges of family-building in isolation.
As co-founder of Fertile Feet, I am passionate about breaking these taboos and fostering holistic, empathetic, and empowering support for women. My goal is to normalize conversations about the emotional aspects of women’s health and equip women with the knowledge and resources they need to take a proactive approach to their well-being.
Looking ahead, I am deeply motivated to listen, learn, and build a community-driven approach to support women navigating the unpredictable journey of starting a family. By understanding your biggest challenges and needs, I aim to ensure that Fertile Feet becomes a source of meaningful support for every step of this journey.
As Fertile Feet grows, I remain committed to approaching this mission with optimism, resilience, and determination to make a lasting impact on women’s health. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and create a future where women feel heard, empowered, and supported every step of the way.
